Here Are Some Great Travel Accessories to Make Your Vacation Easier, More Comfortable, and Safer

If you would like to know what travel accessories are available to make your trip easier, more comfortable, and safer, here are some great products. These items should be available at most luggage and travel accessories stores.

What are compression bags and can they save a lot of space in your travel luggage?

If you use space saving clear plastic compression bags when packing your clothes, you can save up to a whopping 80% more space in your luggage. They can be used over and over again for many years of very easy packing.

What is a non-slip security wallet and how does it work?

One accessory you should consider buying is the non-slip security travel wallet. It is about the same size as a regular wallet but it has non-slip rubber on one side which will rub against and catch on the inside of your pocket if it accidentally slips out of your pocket, or if someone tries to pick your pocket. Always put your wallet in your front pocket. Under no circumstances should you ever carry your wallet in your back pocket. Professional thieves the world over call it “the sucker pocket”.

Here’s a great trick! You can convert your wallet into a non-slip wallet by putting a couple of wide rubber bands around it. Another solution that will help with the pickpocket problem is a chain-equipped security travel wallet which can be attached to your belt.

The secret waist wallet is a wallet that compliments the non-slip travel wallet. It fits nicely under your shirt or blouse, but is still easily accessible. It is not a good idea to lift your shirt or blouse up and open this wallet in public as you never know who is watching, like a would be pickpocket, or robber. It is best to open it discretely where no one can see you doing it, such as in a public washroom stall.

A leather money belt that has a concealed, zippered pocket on the inner side of it, is an excellent security travel product. You can hide paper money, small, foldable documents, or a key in the secure, zippered pocket.

Elastic security socks are stay-up, elastic stretch socks that have a concealed, zippered pocket on the inside of each one of a pair of these socks. These socks would be very difficult for a pickpocket to access.

Another unique accessory is the RFID blocking passport holder. This radio frequency identification holder protects your passport, and other important documents that could be compromised by data-stealing hackers.

Combination and key accessible combo luggage locks make it possible for customs officials to unlock your checked luggage for inspection with special skeleton keys, then lock your luggage up again. You then can dial the combination and you can open your luggage. This can save you a lot of time and money replacing regular locks that customs agents had to break to gain entry to inspect your luggage. Another great plus with these combo locks is that you don’t have any keys to worry about losing or replacing.

You can carry a personal, battery-operated security alarm that emits a loud, shrill pitched sound that may help ward off a mugger or robber. Another product that is less expensive and will produce the same effect is a referee’s whistle, which you can hide under your shirt or blouse, attached to a string and hung around your neck.

Battery-operated hotel room intruder alarms are great hotel room safety devices. One type of alarm hangs on the room’s door knob. Any movement of the door knob or door will set the alarm off. Another one is the doorstop type which you push under the door’s bottom edge. If someone tries to open the hotel room door, the alarm will be triggered.

Women travelers can get an innovative security purse that has a steel cable sewn into the strap. This will foil a thief who attempts to cut through the strap and tries to take off with their purse.

Easy to carry, easy to inflate, the pocket pillow is approximately 6″ x 4″ x 1″ and inflates to about 19″ x 15″. It can make a comfortable pillow to rest your head upon when you are tired or want to sleep.

Always protect your eyes from the tropical sun when traveling by wearing sunglasses that carry both a UVA as well as a UVB certified protection label.

A handy little book light that clamps on to the edge of your book enables you to conveniently read in dim light or total darkness. It also allows you to read in the dark without disturbing your sleeping travel companion.

If you are backpacking you should consider wearing a steel-mesh equipped backpack. These great backpacks have a security steel mesh sewn into the bottom and sides, the most vulnerable places where a thief could slash it with a knife. When this happens, everything tumbles out, and the thief and his accomplices grab anything of valuable and run away in different directions.

Keep in mind that you will probably have to use adaptor plugs and converters if you are traveling to certain countries.

How to Find a Secure Travel Wallet

Stop and think for a moment about how many items you have in your wallet right now. If you’re like most men, you’re carrying your Driver’s License, IDs for clubs or memberships, three or four credit cards, cash and coins. In addition, you’re probably carrying your iPhone, Blackberry or Android device. These items are multiplied if you’re traveling long distance. You’ve got passports, airline tickets, traveler checks and other additional items that are essential to traveling.

In most situations, you’ve got everything spread all over your person. Wallet in one pocket, cell phone in another, and travel documents in your carryon bag. The more places you have things, the more likely it is for you to lose something or be subject to theft. Rather than putting yourself at risk or fumbling for your things, look for a secure travel wallet.

Finding a Secure Travel Wallet

Travel wallets keep you secure and help you travel with your mind at ease. Travel wallets differ from normal wallets with their emphasis on storage and security. Unlike a typical money clip or small wallet, wallets for travel can hold everything that you’ll need in order to travel securely.

Wallets for travel can keep your cards, your cash, your traveler’s checks, your ID, your travel documents AND your smartphone in one location. Most importantly, if you can find a front pocket wallet, you’ll be able to store everything in your front pocket and away from theft.

Different Kinds of Travel Wallets

There are two main varieties of secure travel wallets that you can choose from. Both offer the convenience of having everything at your immediate reach when you are traveling. Both have the ability to carry everything you’ll need – from your smartphone, your credit cards, your cash and your coins.

1) Front Pocket Wallets – The first option is a front pocket wallet. A front pocket wallet is a secure travel wallet that has room for everything. It combines the convenience of a high quality wallet with the security of front pocket placement. There’s no safer place to carry your items than in your front pocket. If you decide this is the type of travel wallet for you, it’s important to find one that has room for everything that you’ll need while you’re traveling.

2) Travel Shoulder Holster – The second option is a travel shoulder holster. Like a front pocket wallet, a travel shoulder holster can hold all of the items that you need. The main difference is in carrying the wallet. Travel shoulder holsters sit on your shoulder, as the name implies and the wallet part of the holster is keep safely under your arm. They can carry your things under your jacket or other outwear so that it’s possible to keep everything safe. In addition, you can find models that have a hidden passport pocket to keep this valuable document safe and secure.

Having a secure travel wallet can be just the thing that you need to travel safely. Whether you select a front pocket wallet or a secure shoulder holster for your gear, you can be sure that you’re able to travel with ease.

Siena’s cathedral, the Duomo, begun in the twelfth century, is one of the great examples of Italian romanesque architecture. Its main facade was completed in 1380. Its campanile and baptistry make a fine group.

It is unique among Christian cathedrals in that its axis runs north-south. This is because it was originally intended to be the largest cathedral in existence, with a north-south transept and an east-west aisle, as is usual.

After the completion of the transept and the building of the east wall (which still exists and may be climbed by the public via an internal staircase) the money ran out and the rest of the cathedral was abandoned.

Use Your Planner’s Calendar and Put Pockets in Place to Increase Your Productivity

Do you have a planner? Does it include a calendar, i.e., both daily and weekly (or monthly)? Although most people think that a calendar is the heart of a planner, I still had to ask the question.

Now, if you don’t have a planner, go get one and be sure it has all four of these components:

Daily calendar
Weekly/Monthly calendar
To-do list (both current and future)
Notes section

There are physical (paper) planners of every type that will fulfill this list and there are electronic ones for your computer, your phone, or whatever you use. The idea, though, is you have to USE it or it is not worth having and is basically a waste.

I am going to assume that you have your planner and now will give you some quick ideas that may seem simple, but they take commitment to implement. However, at the same time, they will give you enormous ROI, that is, Return on Investment and will increase your productivity many times over (because you’ll be building in pockets, i.e., the difference between calm and crazed):

Write in every appointment you have on your monthly calendar first.
Record those appointments also on your daily calendar if you are within a week of the appointment. Otherwise, just leave them on the monthly calendar until the date is closer since we all know how things can change. There’s no sense to be writing, erasing, deleting, or whatever more times than is necessary.
Put “pockets” around your appointments. Here’s what I mean by that:

Regardless of whether your appointment is in your office and people are coming to you or if you are traveling across town or across campus or you are going to the doctor or going to see a client….it doesn’t matter. Put some cushion, buffer, padding, protected space (pockets) on both sides of that appointment. I can’t tell you an exact amount – but here are some guidelines.

a. For appointments that are in your office, create at LEAST a ten minute pocket on either side. You want to be able to be ready for the appointment and that means closing out whatever you were working on and getting out the necessary notes and materials that will be needed. Plus, you may need to get yourself in the right frame of mind so you can focus. At the end of an appointment, you need 10 minutes (or more) to take care of what just transpired, put things away, delegate, do whatever needs to be done…and then transition into your next activity.

b. For appointments that are across campus or across town, put in a travel pocket. As far as I know, none of you is like the character in Bewitched who could just twinkle her nose and transport herself somewhere else. You actually have to walk, drive, ride, or otherwise ambulate yourself. Not only do you need to block the time for travel but also allow yourself an additional ten minutes BOTH WAYS – and this is your pocket. Leaving ten minutes before you think you SHOULD leave allows time for traffic, seeing people, etc.

c. For appointments that involve projects of some time, build in a pocket to actually DO THE WORK that is generated due to the appointment. When you set an appointment like this, immediately look at your planner and schedule the appropriate work time to accompany the appointment or meeting. Get into that habit.

As I said, these seem simple…but their impact will change your whole sense of yourself as a productive professional. And, it will changes others’ perceptions of you as well. Sounds like a winning idea to me!!

We Are Responsible For Ourselves and Our Security When Traveling Anywhere

Airports, hotels, restaurants, and public places can only be partly responsible for safety on their premises. It is up to us to take care of ourselves no matter where we are. In my experience traveling all over the world, we are in many crowded situations and thieves know travelers carry money. Be certain your money is carried next to your body. Avoid wallets in the back pocket or side pocket or purses slung over the shoulder. A travel vest works best as you can have a small coin purse in the outside pocket, so if you are accosted you can throw it away from yourself and the thief will run after the vest while you can get away. The travel vest can be worn under or over a jacket.

Carry your money and valuables with you at all times. Leave nothing in your hotel or stateroom. Even your passport is a desired mark for thieves especially in countries where its becoming increasingly popular for identity theft. What could be a better place than an inside pocket of a travel vest?

Don’t bother with a new wardrobe. Who knows what you will find in your travels. You can leave the old behind and fit the new right in the suitcase. The wardrobe works best if coordinated around one color with many different tops, wrinkle free if you roll them. A piece of costume jewelry, a scarf or a belt will set off your outfit. You might need a wrinkle free skirt for upscale restaurants, and ballerina slippers work well for those dressy nights and take little suitcase room.

Remember you are going to tote this suitcase so you want to keep it as light as possible.

Personal items that you can’t live with out, carry in your travel vest. Crushable rain/wind proof jacket can go in the back pouch. Phone, credit card, traveler’s checks, money, toothpaste, toothbrush, make up, camera, 2 days of medication, glasses, crossword puzzle book, tickets, passport…all go in the travel pockets so they are with you all the time. A travel vest bonus: it counts as an article of clothing, not an extra carry on bag! Fabulous!

Remember, look to yourself for your safety.
